Gilbert Slattery - 80

It is with deepest sadness that we announce the death of Gilbert Slattery, in his 80th year, who passed away suddenly at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Sunday, July 29, 2001.

Known affectionately by family and friends as Slats or Buster.

Gilbert was predeceased by his wife and best friend, Fran and his daughter, Shirley.

He was an inspirational father and buddy to daughters, Susie, Bren and Jeannie (Hon, Babe and Doll). He will be ever remembered by his five grandchildren, Meaghan, Blake, Darcy; Tony and Ann-Marie and two great-grandchil¬dren, Mathias and Mikayla. Gilbert is also survived by his brother, Donny, Hamilton, Ont., and companion, Addie Mann, Glace Bay; his nephews, Sandy and Keith and nieces, Yvonne, Patsy and Mary.

His courage, honour and humour will be missed by those at home, across Canada and overseas. For this reason, there will be two services, one held at Mira Gut Bridge on Thursday, August 2 at 12 noon, officiated by Susan Slattery, assisted by Rev. Angus MacKinnon. Friends will be received after the service at 926 Catalone Road. A second service date. As well, his ashes will be spread on both fronts (Atlantic and Pacific) to watch over Canada, in England where he'll lie beside his soul mate, Fran, and at Canada's Military Cemetery in Beechwood, Ottawa.

We say good-bye to a great soldier, Lest we Forget.

His legacy is one of strength and love to be matched by few.
