Joseph Corkery - 78

Joseph Corkery, 78, of 3 Prince St., Sydney Mines, died suddenly at home Monday, Oct. 22, 2001.

Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary (MacDougall) Corkery.

He was a member of St. Pius X Parish. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Cape Breton Highlanders. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Breton Branch 8, Sydney Mines and a member of the Kiwanis Club where he was a volunteer for meals-on-wheels.

Joseph was employed at the former Sydney Radar Base for 35 years. He enjoyed participating in legion activi¬ties, especially darts. He enjoyed life and was well loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marguerite (Swan); his daughters, Pauline (Conrad) Cantwell, Sydney Mines, and Arlene (Michael) Yurchesyn, Atlanta, Ga., and his son, Sylvester Corkery, Calgary. Also surviving are his brother, Donald Corkery, Hull, Que.; his d sister, Gladys Corkery, North Sydney; six grandchildren and four great-grand- children.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Sid, Richard, Michael, Bud and Patrick. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
