Allenby V.S. Wadden

It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Allenby Wadden at home, 29 Foundry St., Glace Bay, Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Wadden's Cove in 1918 he was the son of the late Elva (Peters) and George Wadden.

Allenby served overseas in France, Germany and Holland during the Second World War with the Cape Breton Highlanders for five years, where he was wounded in action on D-Day 1945. After the army he worked in the mines for a while then joined Canada Post until retiring after 25 years.

He was a member of St. Mary's Anglican Church, John Bernard Croak, VC Branch 003 Legion, Glace Bay, and the Cape Breton Highlander Association.

Allenby leaves behind daughter, Sharon (Lonnie) Pye; son, George; grandson, George Jr., who helped care for him; grandchildren, David, Dale, Debbie, Kelli, Devon, Butch and Andrew; as well as 12 great-grandchildren. Allenby is also survived by brother, Carl.

Besides his parents Allenby was predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years Wilma, son, Allenby Jr., grandson, Benjamin, daughter ter-in-law, Barbara and 10 brothers and sisters.
