It is with deepest heart-felt sorrow that we announce the passing of Melvin L. (Mel) MacLean, age 83 years, a life-long resident of Sydney Mines, following a courageous three year battle with ill health.

Mel was the second eldest son of the late John Thomas and Mary Catherine(MacKeigan) MacLean. He leaves behind to mourn, his loving wife of 54 years, Katherine "Kaye" (Campbell) MacLean; one son Arnie (Eileen), Cam-bridge, Ont.; eldest daughter, Janie MacDonald and youngest daughter, Lorna (Mike) Lapenat, all of Sydney Mines. Also surviving are his only sister, Helen (Wilson) Johnson, Wain-fleet, Ont. and his brother, Harold (Ruth) MacLean, Brant-ford, Ont. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Jason and Cameron, St. Catharines, Katie and Siobhan, Cambridge, Ont., Sluaghan and Zachary, Sydney Mines.

Besides his parents, Mel was predeceased by his son, Don (Catherine), brothers, Arnold, Charles (Ann), Melbourne (Bernice) and Lorne (Elvina).
